Iyengar Yoga Teacher Training Program
with Rebecca Weisman and Rose Goldblatt
Begins Fall 2027...

Learning to teach yoga is more than just teaching poses. Rather than merely leading people through a sequence, we believe in creating deep interest in the subject, as interest ultimately leads to absorption. Iyengar Yoga teaches us to be deeply aware of the movements of our own bodies and minds, and as teachers, from that jumping off point we learn to be invested in the students in front of us. Sharing the subject in this way collectively creates a cohesive sadhana (practice). In our Teacher Education Program we will explore how the basic structure and systematic method of Iyengar Yoga sets the stage, building from basic instruction to spiritual practice.

This program will cover the fundamentals of the art of teaching Iyengar Yoga. Through intensive weekends spanning 18 months we will dive deep into the basics of how to teach asana and pranayama from the Level I syllabus, how to refine one's personal practice, the art of sequencing, and modifications for common injuries and ailments. We will look at how to develop a nurturing classroom that helps support students on their journey. We will also explore basic anatomy and yoga philosophy with a firm foundation in all eight limbs of the yoga system.

In our intensive training weekends you will learn:

  • Names of Level l poses in Sanskrit and English

  • The families of asanas and their benefits

  • The art of demonstration

  • Teaching basic primary actions in an asana

  • Linking actions within an asana

  • The art of sequencing and linking between poses

  • Verbal correction and hands-on adjustments

  • Modifications for common injuries and ailments

  • The practice of pranayama

  • Anatomy pertinent to the Level I syllabus

  • Yoga philosophy including study of the Yoga Sutras of Patanjali

  • Developing classroom rapport and ethics of teaching

Our training weekends will focus on one or more of the above topics through a combination of lecture, hands-on group or partner activities, and discussion. Our regular Tuesday morning meetings will focus on implementing the knowledge gained over the weekends, and practice teaching. Students can expect lots of practice teaching time and feedback in a systematic and nurturing environment, helping each person progress at their own pace.
